Game suggestion: The card game Uno.

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Hi all

Have you played the card game Uno, where you have to match the colours and numbers together to get rid of all your cards? Well, I think it would be a great game addition for the website.

The only possible problem is deciding on rules, as different rules are played depending on who you play with.

There are already a few ways of playign this game online, but not all Zone users would be familiar with some of the ways used to play, and I don't think it would be hard to adapt to a webpage setting.

I also offer my assistance in coding the game. I have experience in coding PHP, so if the site uses PHP, or can interface with PHP scripts, I would be happy to help.

Please post suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc.

Thanks for reading.

most of us have played the game

the site isn't mainly for the games, and we don't play games together anyway, what is the point?

Ok then, I thought it might be a good idea.

seconded. i spent many an evening at college procrastinating in this fashion. yankee g 24, no, currently ZoneBBS doesn't offer two plus player games. could be fun though

And 2 player games could indeed be possible, with a little thought and consideration.

I like that idea! I'd love to play Uno on here!

Aw, man, my dad forced me to waste many a pefectly fine hour playing Uno when I was a kid. I really hated that game, for some reason :-)

Post 9 by chocolab (move over school!) on Sunday, 20-Nov-2005 12:17:43

Well first off who says the cl's and even admin would go for this, second what happens if a no one's on and wants to play with you and b. what also happens if it goes down for repairs or whatever would that be another thing that someone would complain about like qn history?

good idea. it sounds good

Post 11 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 20-Nov-2005 13:31:46

I have no idea if that would even be possible, but it'd be a lot of fun if it was!

Post 12 by TheMuso (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 20-Nov-2005 16:15:50

If there was nobody else to play against, you would play against the server.

I have got a few ideas as how this could be managed, as it would also be nice to have concurrent games running so nobody has to wait just to play.

I intend to start coding it soon, once I get more important work out of the way.

Seems like ages since I've played Uno. I remember when playing with my Dad instead of saying "Uno" he would hollar out "Zeno-O!" Anyhow as long as it isn't in any way combined with qn then Yes! Why not give it a go if it can be worked out.

Post 14 by TheMuso (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 20-Nov-2005 20:10:44

If by not combining with qn you mean not using the qn system to play, I certainly wasn't thinking of using that.

I like this idea. I'm also familiar with php and would be glad to help with this project as well.

I love Uno and spend many a night playing with a dorm teacher at the center i am at.

My first thought is that we already have Crazy Eights on All-in-Play. Same game minus the Draw Fours.

Post 18 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 25-Nov-2005 4:50:29

yeah well here is the thing some of us cant access all in play from school and all so that is pointless second i think it is still a great idea and any how he is willing to code it why not let him try

Post 19 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 25-Nov-2005 10:30:00

agree

Post 20 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Friday, 25-Nov-2005 13:23:16

We can't do Uno because of copyrights, but could do Crazy Eights. It's on the list of suggestions. We can't do Yahtzee because of copyrights either, which is too bad, cuz I wanted to.

Post 21 by TheMuso (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 25-Nov-2005 16:48:58

If it comes down to copyright, issues, thats fine, I understand.

Yes. Not sure who owns the rights, but I'm going to inquire about licensing, though I fear it's cost-prohibitive.

Post 23 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 26-Nov-2005 11:37:36

how do those bots they get on irc servers use uno then?

Post 24 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Saturday, 26-Nov-2005 13:40:23

Not necessarily legally.

Post 25 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Saturday, 26-Nov-2005 18:09:12

well j, yyou've given us beautiful wonderful, annoying to others, but great dice, so we can play about anything with those, and personally I really wouldn't trust TheMuso
to create any games, just my opinion. And it's really like j said, crazy8's is on all-in-play, and a free trial is given, but I'd really like a dice area, where we can send the dice to more than 1 person, I miss that.

Honestly, It isn't like the zone is sharing anything with All In play, except it's members. And Yankee, don't go down on people's coding abbilities when you don't know what they are. If they suck, then fuck it, they wouldn't be shown on the zone's gaming system.

Post 27 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 15-Dec-2005 20:38:46

Right, but as far as All-in-Play, we've got a good relationship with them now and don't really feel like being their head-to-head competitor.

Post 28 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Thursday, 15-Dec-2005 22:18:08

only problem with aip is they're so fucking expensive!

Post 29 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Friday, 16-Dec-2005 2:06:18

I don't think it's half bad for what you're given. And they can do that as long as there's no true competitor for multiplayer games for the blind.

Post 30 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 16-Dec-2005 7:08:29

i agree with yankee. unless you get a free month and i wouldn't say that was pointless
